Sick of waiting for the local council to respond to complaints that signs directing people into Herne Bay had disappeared behind overgrown bushes local campaigner Cllr Margaret Flaherty decided to solve the problem herself.
"Not content with closing the local visitor centre in the bandstand Canterbury City Council and Kent County Council seem to be trying to kill Herne Bay by hiding it. They are just not doing their job properly!" Says Margaret Flaherty.
"Visitors are the lifeblood of our local economy. Yet anyone trying to come to the sea front for the first time would have been unable to find it as the tourist attraction and highways signs for Herne Bay had become totally overgrown."
"This is typical - they are literally killing the town. I got so sick of waiting for them to do anything about it I decided to get my shears out and do it myself. Now at least visitors will be able to find the town even they won't be able to go to the visitor centre because their local conservative councillors voted to close it!"
