The closure of 2008 for some North Thanet residents will be a welcome end to a difficult year. Yet as we step over the threshold of 2009, we face a future that holds unknown excitement, pleasure, new experiences and sadness, just as any year that has gone before.
The year has already been defined by the bleak economic forecasts and the threat of yet more unemployment. However, each of us has the opportunity to embrace the future positively, yes, we are subject to the pressures and strains that result from global problems, but we have life and air is still free!
We are the masters of our own destiny at least they way in which we respond to those pressures, we can either enter into the doom and gloom shaped for us by political pundits or we can grasp hold of the hope that is within each of us. Our attitude and behaviours affect others whether they are positive or negative. Let us choose positive, be an influence for good in our community, look out for those needing support and contribute to the development of our neighbourhood. Often we make resolutions that prove to be impossible aspirations; why not choose to resolve the possible and attainable - to make each day count.
