Happy Christmas... And Goodbye

1.44.59pm GMT Thu 26th Nov 2009

Lib Dem Leader at Kent County Hall Trudy Dean has slammed plans to close reception desks at three Kent County Council office buildings in Maidstone. Six reception staff received at risk notices yesterday (25th November 2009) and were advised redundancies may follow.

Trudy said:

"Around 100,000 visitors per year come to these KCC buildings. This decision will create confusion, and threatens the security of staff in the buildings.

"The timing of the announcement literally a month before Christmas is cruel. I think Reception staff have been insulted by this letter which says they are not front line staff. In fact they are the welcoming face of the County Council, and even appear on KCC Homepage on the intranet."

Trudy has called the issue in for questioning by members of the Cabinet Scrutiny Committee on December 9th.
